• 'Sorry I could not be of any help' -Why the British military shut down public UFO desk

By Ted Bonnitt on June 22nd, 2013

The British Ministry of Defense (MOD) yesterday released the tenth and final collection of declassified documents relating to UFO phenomena over the UK skies. This last release covers correspondence and reports during a two year period before the MOD shut down their UFO desk in 2009, ending a nearly 60 year effort of public transparency on the subject.

The information sheds light on why the MOD shut down the bureau during their second busiest year of reported sightings, when over 600 UFO and related sightings were reported by citizens, three times as many as just the year before.

  • Twin UFOs photographed in UK

By Ted Bonnitt on June 17th, 2013

A photograph taken of two alleged UFOs over the skies of England on June 14, 2013, offers unusual clarity.

Steve Lambert , 42, of Basingstoke, was on a phone call outside of the Running Horse Pub in Bracknell, Berkshire, at 8 PM when he saw the two objects over Harmans Water.

"They were heading south-west at speed towards Basingstoke, quicker than any normal aircraft. They were there for less than five seconds," Lambert told getreading.co.uk.

If the objects were only visible for 5 seconds, the question could be asked of how Lambert had time to take a picture of ...

  • Fast, odd moving light videotaped over Belfast

By Ted Bonnitt on June 15th, 2013

An erratically flying object was video recorded near Belfast, UK on May 23, 2013.

The Ralston family spotted the odd light and began to take video of it from their Holywood home at about 9 PM. As dusk turned to night, the light became more evident.

The family speculated that it may have been a Chinese lantern, but as seen in the video, the light is moving too quickly for an inflatable device or lantern.

UK air traffic controllers in the area have been unable to identify the UFO, and no other reports of unusual objects at the time have ...

  • Picture of UFO taken over Dutch medieval castle

By Ted Bonnitt on June 11th, 2013

An image of an apparent UFO taken over a medieval castle in the Netherlands is making news worldwide.

Local resident and amateur photographer Corinne Federer, 43, was visiting the Muiderslot Castle, near Amsterdam on May 25, 2013, when she snapped the picture with a high quality camera and wide angle lens. She shot the image in HDR mode, taking multiple images at once. Her shutter speed was 1/250 of a second, so the object had to be moving very fast to have blurred in the photo.

Though Federer dismissed that the object was an insect flying close to the ...

  • More UFOs reported in US during May

By Ted Bonnitt on June 9th, 2013

Sphere shape UFOs were the most reported type of unknown craft over the United States in the month of May, with 187 sighting accounts submitted to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

Sightings of spheres have steadily increased over the past three months, which could be attributed to that fact that more people are spending time outside as the weather warms for spring.

In general UFO type sightings, California was the leading UFO reporting state, with 67 accounts in May. And that statistic likely reflects the high population density in California, where more eyes are looking up.

    The majority of UFO ...

One witness took a video of the object.

All three reports submitted to the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) generally described a single, bright object, with each report offering varying details. It is possible that the sightings are related to the same object, even though the UFO may have appeared slightly different to each group of ...

  • Another alleged UFO photographed entering Mexican volcano

By Ted Bonnitt on June 4th, 2013

An active volcano just south of Mexico City has gained much attention in past months, due to controversial images taken of what appears to be speedy UFOs flying directly into the mountain top crater.

The latest images to suggest the phenomenon were taken on May 31, 2013. The video has gone viral, with many news agencies picking up the story.

The video is actually a time lapse sequence, meaning that it is a sped up collection of still images. In reality, the object flying near the Popocatepetl volcano was moving much slower than is represented in the footage.

  • Mystery solved of Moon's uneven gravity

By NASA, Pasadena, CA on June 1st, 2013

NASA's Gravity Recovery and Interior Laboratory (GRAIL) mission has uncovered the origin of massive invisible regions that make the moon's gravity uneven, a phenomenon that affects the operations of lunar-orbiting spacecraft.

Because of GRAIL's findings, spacecraft on missions to other celestial bodies can navigate with greater precision in the future.

GRAIL's twin spacecraft studied the internal structure and composition of the moon in unprecedented detail for nine months. They pinpointed the locations of large, dense regions called mass concentrations, or mascons, which are characterized by strong gravitational pull. Mascons lurk beneath the lunar surface and cannot ...
